Joanne Ling

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR

AECOM

I'm Joanne originally from Malaysia and read Electrical & Electronic Engineering at Bristol University. I stumbled into the industry whilst applying for jobs.

Although I have looked at alternative careers, I still find the construction industry interesting and varied as it's something you can relate to and explain what you do to anyone.

My key skills are translating a vision and organising the team to deliver with a smile.

There has been much progress for women in the industry but there is still some conception of women's role in the industry i.e., not taken seriously or too 'polite'. We should continue to be authentic.

As quoted by Jacinda Ardern (ex-prime minister of NZ), 'It's okay to be empathetic and not aggressive or assertive enough. It’s not deemed weak. You can be both compassionate & strong.’
